Legal Services

BE FREE TO RUN AND GROW YOUR BUSINESS AND LET US TAKE CARE OF THE LEGAL STRESS.

You might think that a start-up or small business isn’t big enough to warrant the advice of a lawyer but unless you are an expert in law, this simply isn’t the case. As well as providing specific legal advice a lawyer can act as a valuable business advisor providing advice on business planning, recruiting staff, managing policies and procedures, dealing with customers, protecting your brand name and providing trading terms that reflect exactly how your business works, they can also assist in structuring the business in a tax efficient manner and ensuring all the legal foundations are in place for your business to grow and that the directors and shareholders are adequately protected.

HOW CAN WE HELP?

It is good practice for every business to have in place the following (as a minimum):-

  1. Shareholders Agreement for Limited Companies with two or more shareholders, this document acts as an insurance policy and sets out exactly how the company will be run and what powers each of the shareholders has.
  2. Partnership Agreement for non-limited Companies with two or more business partners. If you do not have a partnership agreement stating differently then all profits and all losses will be shared equally between the business partners regardless of how much capital each has invested or how much time each spends working in the business.
  3. Terms and Conditions whether you are dealing with businesses or consumers a robust set of terms that governs how you will work together or what type of product you will supply, for how much and when the product or service will be delivered and to what standard; is imperative. If you do not produce your own terms the odds are that your client or customer will have their own terms and you will be bound by theirs but unaware of this until there is a problem. So why take the risk?
  4. Employment Contracts and Policies and Procedures recruiting staff and maintaining good working relationships are a potential minefield for employers and unfortunately for smaller business owners these responsibilities are ever increasing. Please do not ignore this area of your business. It is now fairly common knowledge that all employees must be provided with a written statement of their terms and conditions of employment within two months of their start date but what can you do if for some fundamental business reason you need to amend these terms and reduce hours worked or change their role in some way? We urge you to seek professional advice.
  5. Brand Protection business owners spend much time and money creating the right brand name to fit their business and bringing the power of their visual presence to the market via websites, social media and PR but sadly some forget to protect them which makes them a prime target for copycat businesses to steal their ideas and then their business. Are you protected?
